Holy Week Day 2 Jesus Clears the Temple
After Jesus traveled from Jericho on Palm Sunday, he arrived in Jerusalem. There, he was angered by the corruption in the Temple at the hands of the money changers, saying, “The Scriptures declare, ‘My Temple will be a house of prayer,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves.” (Luke 19:46)
Monday’s events are recorded in Matthew 21:12–22, Mark 11:15–19, Luke 19:45-48, and John 2:13-17. For a complete timeline of Holy Week visit christianity.about.com.
When you tour Israel you will learn that the Southern Steps of the Temple are an “A” location, meaning we can know with certainty that this is the location mentioned in the Bible, and this is a place where Jesus walked.
The journey of ascents is always accompanied by a pilgrim’s psalm.
It is a faith-builder to know that what the Bible says is true and can be placed in history. So Jesus’ action in clearing the Temple foreshadowed the cleansing He would provide to us as the temples of the Holy Spirit following his death and resurrection.
As you revisit the familiar story, consider what this cleansing could mean for you today.
